Foundation Course - 2 Day
Course Overview
This course is an introduction to the basic principles of car body sheet
metalwork and will give students the confidence to tackle repair work
and make basic panels.
The course is designed to suit all levels of experience and allows for
varying degrees of skill.
During the course we will demonstrate how to manufacture professionally
finished panels with basic tools and equipment as well as using more
sophisticated equipment such as wheeling machines
etc.
There is time available to discuss your own projects.
Course Aims
To enable students to produce basic repair panels and alter and fit
obtainable panels.

Jig Building
Constructing basic jigs and fixtures
to aid reproduction of original parts.
Body Construction
Aligning panels to create
flowing bodylines and parallel gaps. |

Metal Flanging
Shrinking and stretching metal to form convex
and concave curved flange over basic steel formers using various
hammers
Forming wired edge of panel using shrinking and stretching
techniques with basic hand tools

Metal Shaping
Forming and smoothing double curvature panels to
accurately fit jig Firstly forming panel into wooden block using
shrinking technique with wooden mallet to produce compound curvature Smoothing panels over

Joining thin sheet without overlapping joint or
adding filler rod so that seam can be planished to a smooth finish
